The house now occupied by the Torre de Marfil (Ivory Tower) restaurant dates from the 18th century and is situated on Mercaderes Street, a part of town that in the second half of the 19th century was noted for the presence of several businesses. The Torre de Marfil recalls the wisdom and accuracy with which the earliest Cantonese immigrants prepared their food during festivities more than 150 years ago. In this place visitors may feel the spirit of those distant spots recognized by the use of color red and gold as symbols of Chinese celebrations. The main room is decorated with Chinese artwork made of porcelain and wood and the private room has a pagoda, ideal for a business lunch or dinner or special celebrations. Light food is served at the patio. In addition, it has a shop selling Chinese products, including medicines, tea and incense. The restaurant serves smoked meat, traditional Cantonese dishes, fried rice, Chinese soup and Won Ton, and some vegetarian choices. Not far from the restaurant are Ambos Mundos Hotel, the Historic Center's Model, Habana 1791 Perfume Store, Marco Polo House of Spices, Wagner Garden, El Navío (the Ship) Store and a Havana Cigar Shop.
